monday.com Org Charts: Native vs Apps vs Lucidchart

If your team runs on monday.com and you need an org chart, you have four realistic options: monday.com’s built-in features, one of two popular marketplace apps, or a general-purpose diagramming tool like Lucidchart. Every claim about the alternatives below comes from their own product pages and listings, checked in August 2026.

The comparison comes down to one question: where should your org chart’s data live? In your monday.com user directory, in your boards, or in a separate drawing?

Option 1: monday.com’s built-in features

monday.com offers a native org chart for visualising your organisation’s structure, built around inviting your teammates and defining the team structure inside your account. Its WorkCanvas whiteboard also ships org chart templates for drawing structures by hand.

Strengths: included with monday.com, no app to install, and fine for a quick internal view of who is who among your monday.com users.

Limitations: it is designed around your account’s teammates rather than arbitrary board data, and the feature page does not advertise custom fields on cards, branded exports, or placeholder entries for people outside your monday.com account.

Best for: small teams that want a fast, zero-setup snapshot of their monday.com users and nothing more.

Option 2: Org Chart by LeanyLabs

Org Chart by LeanyLabs OÜ (3,816 installs, launched October 2023, no ratings yet) visualises relations between board items as an interactive chart, with drag-and-drop rearranging and real-time updates.

Strengths: a slick drag-and-drop editing model, real-time reflection of board changes, and because it charts generic item relations it can visualise hierarchies that are not org charts at all.

Limitations, as stated on the developer’s own listing: it requires a monday.com Pro or Enterprise plan because it relies on the Dependency column, showing more than 200 items may cause performance issues, and more than 1,000 may crash the app. Chart export is not advertised.

Best for: Pro or Enterprise teams that want a general item-relations visualiser with drag-and-drop editing.

Option 3: Capable Org Chart Builder (ours)

Capable Org Chart Builder (4.6-star rating from its marketplace reviews, 1,000+ installs, launched November 2023) generates the chart from a “Reports To” field in your board, so the org chart is a live view of data your team already maintains.

Strengths:

• Anyone can be on the chart. People are board items, not user accounts, so contractors, external partners, open positions and future hires appear without a monday.com seat. One reviewer summed it up as “just the app you need to handle external users of monday.com”.
• Your data, on the cards. Show up to 4 custom fields from any board column: title, location, contact details, whatever you track.
• Real org chart semantics. Assistants display next to the person they support (including one assistant serving several people), and a stacked view keeps large teams compact.
• Branded exports. One-click PDF or PNG with your logo, title and date, ready for board decks and investor updates.
• Restructure planning. Duplicate the board, model the new structure, and compare exports before anything is announced.

Limitations: it is a paid app with a trial, and the chart is edited through the board rather than by dragging boxes. If you want freehand drag-and-drop rearranging detached from data, that is not what it is for.

Best for: teams that want the org chart to be a maintained, exportable artifact driven by board data, including people beyond their monday.com users.

Option 4: Lucidchart

Lucidchart is a dedicated diagramming platform. You build org charts manually or import them from CSV, Excel or Google Sheets, and linked Google or Microsoft 365 files can refresh the data.

Strengths: the most powerful pure diagramming of the four, with total layout freedom, a huge template library, and org charts that can encode anything you can draw. Mature export options.

Limitations: it is a separate product with its own subscription, and your org data lives outside monday.com in spreadsheets or the diagram itself. The “Lucidchart for monday” marketplace app embeds diagrams into monday.com for viewing; it does not build charts from your board data. Every joiner, leaver and team change means updating the source file or the drawing.

Best for: organisations that already run Lucid for diagramming, or need org charts with complex custom layouts that no data-driven tool will produce.
